I have a 4qt electric ice cream maker. Can I make just 1.5 quarts of ice cream instead 4?
I only have enough ingredients to make 1.5 quarts.
Will it turn out bad if I don’t fill up the canister to capacity?
So long as 1.5 quarts will get well stirred by the blades it should be fine. If the mixture only just touches the blades – or worse, not at all – then no, it isn’t going to work properly.
Some machines seem to have different stirring designs – and not all of them seem to go right down to the bottom – presumably the churning further up manages to mix the stuff lower down – not sure.
As for "turning out bad" – it isn’t going to make it foul tasting or toxic – it may just not be as light and fluffy as it should be if it isn’t stirred properly.

homemade peanut butter ice cream with an electric ice cream maker.?
Read your owner’s manual. This is the kind of question they deal with in things like that. If you don’t have it anymore, Google can help you find one.

I’ve never done this, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
It would be no different than doubling a recipe or reducing a recipe. Right?

It may not turn out satisfactory since it’s tricky to adjust the timing properly. I’d hold off until I could go buy enough ingredients to make the whole gallon.
