My whole family loves ice cream and I’d love to buy a machine to make it at home, however both my daughter and I are LIT. Lactase pills do not work on me so I don’t eat ice cream. Does anyone know if I can use soy/rice/almond/lactose free milk in an electric ice cream maker with success?

yes of course.
but maybe you will have to use different amounts of the other ingredients, however, i don’t think you will have to.

This recipe would be for my electric ice cream maker. Thanks.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream

2 ounces bittersweet chocolate
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups milk
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup whipping cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup peanut butter

Melt chocolate over low heat. Gradually stir in cocoa powder and milk while continuing to heat. You want the consistency to be thick but not solid as you add the milk and cocoa powder. Beat sugar into eggs. Stir hot chocolate/milk mixture into eggs. Add cream and vanilla extract. Cool. Just before adding to ice cream maker, stir a cup of ice cream mixture into peanut butter. Once mixed, stir into rest of ice cream mixture. Freeze in ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions.

Use fresh ground peanut butter if possible (ie, it should be 100% peanuts).

Enjoy! ~-~

Ours has not been working; the ice cream doesn't freeze right and it ends up not being creamy enough. We use an electric ice cream maker.
Please don't give me those ziplock bag recipes;
The ice cream maker is brand new…We had another and it had the same problem, so we bought a new one to see if it would work…And please, just give me a recipe, I don't want a troubleshooting manual
Oh yeah, and it needs to be regular old vanilla ice cream…

Here is a recipe . It was super easy and it came out very good too:

4 Cups whipping cream
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 16 oz. can (1 1/2 cups) chocolate flavored syrup
2/3 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Combine first three ingredients and beat on medium to high speed until soft peaks form. Fold in chopped nuts. Transfer to 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan and freeze for about 8 hours (or overnight).

So I have an electric ice cream maker that I received as a gift… and I'm totally psyched cause I've found a GREAT recipe! I have to layer the outside of the ice cream can with layers of ice and rock salt….first of all, in the middle of July, I can't find rock salt ANYWHERE… I've called SO MANY places! Where can I find this? And WHY do I need it? Don't people use rock salt on their driveways to MELT the ice? I'm confused… if I layer the rock salt and the ice, won't it MELT the ice and it won't stay as cold as long? Thanks in advance if you know the answer to this…

Oh…speaking of that…that was on Emerils cooking show today…I think he said it was because it keeps the ice colder.

Is it worth the expense of buying one? Is it cost effective to make your own ice cream? I mean an electric ice cream maker, not the old fashioned hand churn type.

My husband and I got an ice cream maker as a wedding gift…and it’s a good thing too - ’cause we use it all the time =O)

Ice cream making is simple and quick if you have an ice cream maker. Making ice cream without an ice cream maker is more time consuming…a hand crank one is time consuming too.

We love our ice cream maker - because we find we can make it a lot cheaper than buying it already made (especially if you make Philadelphia style recipes) - and we have unlimited flavors we can make!

I suggest checking out

http://www.serving-ice-cream.com/ice-cream-maker.html

This website has ice cream maker buying advice, highlights ice cream makers, and provides ice cream recipes (yes - making ice cream every week in our family - we’ve tried ‘em all)!

You should be able to find all the help you need!

I hope you enjoy your ice cream!
